Our approach
BeThere is designed to collect only the information needed to support a school-day phone-free experience. We do not sell student data, read personal content, or track students outside the school context.
What BeThere collects
BeThere may collect basic school account information, student roster information provided by the school, school schedule settings, campus area settings, app participation status, and limited device/app signals needed to support the phone-free school-day experience.
What BeThere does not collect
BeThere does not read texts, photos, browsing history, app content, private messages, call logs, or personal communications. BeThere is not a 24/7 tracking tool and is designed for the school-day context.
- Text messages, emails, or private messages.
- Photos, videos, files, or personal documents.
- Browsing history, search history, or app content.
- Call logs or phone call recordings.
- Microphone audio, keystrokes, or screen recordings.
- Continuous GPS history or off-campus location tracking.
How schools control their data
Schools control the student information they add to BeThere and can update, remove, or request deletion of school data. BeThere uses school data only to provide and support the BeThere service.
FERPA, in plain English
FERPA is a federal student privacy law that applies to schools and certain student education records. BeThere is designed to support schools in using student information responsibly for a school-authorized purpose. BeThere does not sell student data or use student data for advertising.
Data deletion and export requests
Schools may contact BeThere to request help exporting, correcting, or deleting school data. Families with questions about student records should typically contact their school first, since the school controls the student information used in BeThere.
