Plain-English summary
BeThere helps schools run bell-to-bell phone policies. To do that, BeThere needs to know whether a student device is set up and whether the school-day policy should apply during school hours on campus. BeThere is not designed to read personal content, show staff live location, or track students outside the school day.
What BeThere collects
BeThere is designed to collect only what is needed to support the school-day phone policy:
- Student name, grade, school email, and school enrollment information provided by the school.
- School code and school association.
- Device platform, operating system version, app version, and setup status.
- Permission status needed for BeThere to work.
- Phone-free mode status during the school day.
- Campus-area status during the configured school schedule.
- Admin Portal activity and audit events needed for security and support.
What BeThere does not collect
BeThere does not collect or read:
- Text messages, emails, or social media content.
- Photos, videos, files, or personal documents.
- Browsing history, search history, or website URLs.
- Keystrokes, screenshots, or screen recordings.
- Microphone audio, contacts, calendars, or call logs.
- Health, biometric, financial, or family data.
- Continuous GPS breadcrumbs or location history.
- Data for advertising or ad targeting.
Location and school-day boundaries
BeThere uses the school's configured campus area to decide whether the school-day phone policy should apply. The goal is to know whether a student device is within the school-day boundary during the school schedule, not to show staff a live map of students.
Outside the school schedule or campus area, BeThere should not run as a school-day enforcement tool.
Who can see what
School staff can see simple school-day statuses needed to operate the policy, such as Ready, Needs Setup, Needs Permission, Active, or Needs Attention.
Staff should not see student texts, photos, browsing, personal content, or live location.
Each school's data is separated so staff at one school cannot access another school's student, device, or admin data.
How data is used
BeThere uses student and device information to:
- Connect students to the correct school.
- Determine whether phone-free mode should apply during the school day.
- Help school staff see who is ready or may need setup support.
- Maintain security, audit logs, and support records.
- Improve reliability and product performance without selling student data.
Data selling, advertising, and AI training
BeThere does not sell, rent, broker, or trade student data. BeThere does not use student data for advertising or ad targeting. BeThere does not use student personal data to train AI models.
Retention and deletion
Schools or authorized administrators may request access, correction, or deletion of records by emailing hello@bethereschools.com. When a school ends service, BeThere deletes active school records within a reasonable period and removes them from backups according to the backup retention schedule. Audit records may be retained for a limited period for security, compliance, and integrity purposes.
Student and family requests
Families should contact their school for questions about participation, accommodations, or student records. BeThere can also be contacted at hello@bethereschools.com and will coordinate with the school when needed.
